Joshua and Konrad's collaborative performances draw from a wide palette of influences, including musique concrète, metal, noise, film noir, found footage, and personal film. Together, they improvise the construction, layering, and movement of sound and image in real time.
Konrad digitally reworks fragments of self-shot and hand-processed 16mm film, weaving them with sampled media through live looping, triggering, and layering, while Joshua builds shifting sonic landscapes from electric guitar, tape loops, electronics, and field recordings that range from meditative drones and spectral harmonies to dense waves of noise.Together, they create improvised cinema: a living tapestry of texture and resonance where image and sound move fluidly through states of tension and release, intimacy and vastness.
About the Artists
Joshua Churchill is an Oakland-based cross-disciplinary artist whose sound and light work spans performance and installation, often dissolving the boundary between the two. He has collaborated extensively with filmmakers including Konrad Steiner and Paul Clipson, performed in multiple experimental metal and drone projects, and under the solo moniker Plumes. His work has been performed and exhibited throughout the United States and abroad.
on vimeo
Konrad Steiner makes single channel videos and performs both scripted live narration and live improvised montage. His work is sourced from self-shot and hand-processed 16mm film, video and media samples. His presentation of live cinema in the theater is an arrangement of images and sounds loose and evocative enough to bring forth associations for the audience like a shared dream.
Ven Voisey is a sculptor, composer, and designer who currently splits his time between Oakland, CA and Wonder Valley (Twentynine Palms), CA. His work is informed by an attention to underlying textures of his surroundings and relationship to place; he creates rituals, tools and circumstances as a means of exploring the relationship between internal and external space; between the spiritual and physical.
